O'kosi

Making Treaty 7 presents O'kosi, a story that follows several individuals across the expanse of time and explores their relationship with Treaty 7 and with each other.

O'kosi (oh-go-see) is the Blackfoot word meaning 'in the fall when we gather,' and refers to returning home to the river valley for winter camps.

Celebrated director Michelle Thrush, brings a talented cast of Blackfoot actors together to write and put to stage this visually spectacular production filled with music and poetry.

O’kosi depicts the ways in which Indigenous People are healing from the multidimensional and multi-generational effects of the signing of Treaty 7 and the Indian Act and how the repercussions of these policies have been passed to parents, sons, and daughters. Set in Mohkinstsis from 1877 to 2077, O’kosi imagines a shift toward breaking colonial systems, reuniting families, and healing communities. It is a love letter between parent and child.

It is a priority at Making Treaty 7 to ensure that we produce high-quality productions that are accessible to everyone.

This year, for the first time, we are adopting a Pay What You Can Afford model and partnering with Inside Out Theatre to bring audiences described audio, ASL interpreted, and relaxed performances.

Our PWYCA model includes three different prices for tickets - $15, $45, or $75. You can purchase any combination without restrictions. All tickets are general admission and do not require proof of age or student enrolment.

The new pricing model was created with the intent of increasing accessibility of programming to allow a larger number of audiences to be able to attend our performances, including seniors, students, and other artists. Additionally, our partnership with Inside Out Theatre and The Good Host Program allows us to further extend a welcoming hand to anyone interested in experiencing Indigenous storytelling in Treaty 7 territory.

ASL Interpreted: September 29 @ 8pm

Relaxed Performance: October 1 @ 2pm

Described Audio: October 1 @ 8pm

As a resident company at The GRAND, Making Treaty 7 is proud to sell tickets to O'kosi through their box office, however, please join us for the show at the Victor Mitchell Theatre (Pumphouse Theatre). Hope to see you there!
